Revenue adjustment

Aurizon Network operates under a revenue cap regime, where any over- or under-recovery of its approved revenues in any given year is returned (recouped) through a reference tariff adjustment two years later. The adjustment is referred to as a revenue adjustment amount.

Revenue adjustment amounts 2023–24

On 23 October 2024, Aurizon Network submitted its revenue adjustment application for 2023-24 seeking a net recovery of $28.3 million from access holders.

Revenue adjustment amounts 2022–23

We approved Aurizon Network’s 2022–23 revenue adjustment proposal on 23 November 2023.

This proposal submitted on 24 October 2023 (and updated on 7 November 2023), is a revenue adjustment amount for 2022–23 of $33.1 million net recovery from access holders. This amount will adjust the second year (2024–25) revenues for each coal network in Central Queensland.

Revenue adjustment amounts 2021–22

Aurizon Network submitted its revenue adjustment application for 2021–22 on 4 November 2022.

On 15 December 2022, we released a decision notice for Aurizon Network to resubmit its 2021–22 revenue adjustment proposal. Aurizon Network resubmitted this proposal on 20 January 2023.

The revenue adjustment proposal seeks a net recovery from access holders of $35.8 million for 2021–22, which will adjust the second year (2023–24) central Queensland coal network’s allowable revenues and the system reference tariffs.

We approved Aurizon Network’s revised application on 23 March 2023.

Revenue adjustment amounts 2020–21

On 16 December 2021, we approved Aurizon Network’s 2020-21 revenue adjustment amounts, submitted on 28 October 2021. The revenue adjustment is a net return of $17.7 million to the Central Queensland coal network.

Revenue adjustment amounts 2019–20

On 30 October 2020, Aurizon Network submitted revenue adjustment amounts for 2019–20 on the Central Queensland coal network, proposing a net recovery from access holders of $3.0 million.

On 17 December 2020, we made a final decision to approve the 2019-20 revenue adjustment application.

Revenue adjustment amounts 2018–19

On 27 September 2019, Aurizon Network submitted revenue adjustment amounts for 2018–19 to us, proposing a net return to access holders of $11.9 million.

On 25 November 2019, we made a final decision to approve the 2018-19 revenue adjustment application.

Revenue adjustment amounts 2017–18

We applied the 2016 access undertaking process (UT4) in assessing this submission in accordance with the transitional provisions. The 2017 access undertaking (UT5) came into effect on 21 February 2019.
