Irrigation pricing review draft now available for stakeholder feedback

The QCA has published draft reports following a review of the irrigation pricing practices of Sunwater and Seqwater. The reports include draft price recommendations for each business for the period 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2029.

The reports have been provided to the Treasurer and the Minister for Water and were released after an extensive consultation process, with the QCA receiving 24 submissions and holding 11 workshops across the state.

The QCA invites stakeholders to provide feedback and comments on the draft reports, which will assist with the finalisation of recommendations to the government.

QCA Chair Professor Menezes acknowledged that water pricing was a contentious issue and emphasised that the QCA’s draft recommendations were subject to further consideration and that pricing decisions ultimately rested with the state government.

“Ultimately, the decision on pricing for irrigators will be made by the government after the QCA provides its final recommendations in January next year.

“We encourage all stakeholders to participate in this final consultation process to ensure the best outcome for both irrigators and the state,” Professor Menezes said.

The QCA will hold regional workshops, starting later this month. The closing date for submissions is 16 September.
